ADULT HELPER

- Enjoy-a-Ball will operate a “rota system” to allow for one parent/guardian or carer of a child in that class to remain for its duration as an

“additional adult”. This ensures that Enjoy-a-Ball can provide sports coaching for children in a positive, fun and safe environment. We aim

to follow “best practice” in terms of both coaching development and child protection in all of our classes. We also aim to deliver our lessons

at local, accessible venues and at an affordable cost. This requires a minimum of two adults to be present for the duration of each class.

One of the adults will be the Enjoy-a-Ball coach while the other can be the parent/guardian or carer of one of the children in the particular

class. This role for the parent/guardian or carer is entitled “adult helper” and is entirely voluntary and unpaid.

- Adult helpers do not assist in the coaching of children. However, Enjoy-a-Ball takes the view that an additional adult being present in the

event of, say, an injury to a child, would be extremely beneficial.

- Enjoy-a-Ball will try to ensure that an adult helper is present at every class but cannot be held responsible if no adult helper attends.

- It is acknowledged that not every parent/guardian or carer will be able to attend classes in this capacity. However, if possible, your support

with this policy would be greatly appreciated and would help us to deliver coaching development to your child in a safe environment.

The role of an adult helper can best be described as follows:

1. The adult helper at a class must be the parent/guardian or carer of a child in that class.

2. The adult helper should remain for the full duration of the class.

3. The adult helper will take no part in the lesson but should observe it.

4. The adult helper should help the coach to ensure that no children leave the premises during the running of the class. This may include

watching to ensure a child reaches the toilet and returns back to the hall safely. Adult helpers will not take children into the toilets or be

required to assist in helping children at the toilet. Before the class begins and after the class finishes the children’s parents/guardians or

carers are responsible for their children in this respect.

5. The adult helper should be in a position to help the coach to ensure the safety and well being of all children in a class during the lesson.

6. In the event of an injury to a child that requires the coach to administer first aid the adult helper may be asked to assist with the other

members of the class during the time that the injured child is attended to.
